Capitello Wines, located in downtown Eugene, offers a tasting experience of handcrafted and artisan wines from two hemispheres. Owner-Winemaker Ray Walsh is focused first and foremost on producing award winning wines by sourcing fruit from some of the southern Willamette valley’s most unique vineyards. He draws on his extensive winemaking background (he was Winemaker for ten years at one of Oregon’s most well-known wineries, King Estate)to express the valley’s terroir into the finished wines, resulting in exceptional Brut Sparkling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Dessert wines.
Every spring, Walsh heads home to his family owned vineyard in New Zealand to produce wines in the Marlborough Valley. These wines offer the sense of place to the region, with intensity and complexity like no other.
The Capitello’s downtown Tasting Room features both Walsh’s Oregon and New Zealand wines, giving the taster the opportunity to compare the same wine varietals from the same winemaker but see the difference that each hemisphere expresses.
